So yeah.
Still living in the same apartment in Brooklyn. Still working for two staffing agencies, doing various jobs (one of which was making sure the Clintons got fed). Still into mostly the same things (music, video games, city life), although I have picked up a couple new hobbies too......
Had a wonderful Thanksgiving, saw a great They Might Be Giants concert last night, and next Saturday I'm taking the NYC Transit Conductor's exam.
I've also started writing in a paper journal, which is another reason I never post here anymore. It also feels SO DAMN AWKWARD. Who the hell even reads this anymore? |

Hmm, it's been what, about a year since I last made a post?
Well, here's where I am in life. I started a new job at Event Quest right after labor day. The office is in SoHo. My official title there is Marketing Assistant, but I'm generally being using as a swiss army knife employee - I do internet research, desktop publishing, number crunching, paper pushing, deliveries around the city, and yesterday I even stood in for the Director of First Impressions (which is their fancy word for the receptionist).
I'm still living in the same place in Brooklyn, up to my usual antics. I've pretty much stopped watching TV altogether, and I seldomly play video games....at least anything made before 1997. My roommmate just got an XBOX 360, so we'll see if it stays that way. I'm still into my music thing. I ran into this guy the other night:

See ya in 2008! |

I was informed by one of my roommates today that when the lease on our apartment in Brooklyn is up on August 1, he intends to split. My other roommate is also being indecisive about what he's going to do for the next lease term. Anyway, this means that between now and August 1, I either need to find a new roommate, or a new place to live.
...anybody looking for a place to live in NYC (or know somebody who is)? My apartment is on the ground floor of a 3 story building, 3 bedrooms (since one of the bedrooms is pretty small, there is also an office for the occupant to use), living room, kitchen, and bathroom, in Greenpoint Brooklyn. $650 a month for rent, plus your share of utilities, no other fees. |

| good news, bad news |
[May. 4th, 2006|01:28 pm] |
so the good news is the plugin in my web browser that plays the songs/videos when you load up somebody's myspace profile is broken. Yes, that's GOOD news (hint hint to some of you...)
bad news is itunes is being a bastard and refusing to mount my ipod, even though every single other ipod-related program running on my computer sees it, including Apple's ipod updater.
So the karma balances out, resulting in no music for me today.
Oh, and my neighborhood is still covered in a disgusting cloud of smoke, thanks to the biggest fire in NYC in the last 10 years being two blocks down the road....
I haven't commented on television in a while, and I don't want anyone else to start hating me by spreading spoilers, but I am VERY VERY happy with results of last night's Lost! |

man, what a day. TWO new albums from two of my favorite bands came out today:
Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam (yes, they sold out and released an eponymous album)
 Tool - 10,000 Days
okay, I cheated and listened to some leaked songs for these albums, but today, the rightful release date, I gave them back to back full-album listens. Both are worth giving a listen, and if you're fans of either bands, I shouldn't even have to recommend them. Pearl Jam really is getting in touch with their early 90's sound again, which is sure to put them back in the spotlight (as if performing on SNL, Letterman, and having a commercial for their new album playing round the clock, not to mention them showing up on the radio with a non-cover song for the first time in over 10 years isn't doing it already). Still some great stuff though. My pick for song of the album - Severed Hand.
The Tool album, the first in 5 years (for the second time in a row) is...interesting. Normally I'm not for cheezy African chant tracks, but in this case, it works. Otherwise, good ole Tool. My pick for song of the album - Rosetta Stoned.
oh, and if it weren't for this stupid job, I'd be one of the 400 people seeing Pearl Jam at Irving Plaza on Friday.... |

well, that didn't work quite as well as the last one. Yesterday itunes was being Slayer heavy, and today it's being The Doors heavy. Maybe I should revive that "guess the lyric" meme. That one never gets old. |

I'd just like to chime in to say that I really hate Daylight Saving Time. Why do we keep putting ourselves through this crap year after year?
I was gonna make a post for April Fool's Day with a fake obituary....I thought John Cleese would be pretty plausible and freak plenty of people out at first, but of course by the time I got around to it, it was April 2 and you'd have a reason to kick my ass.
If any of you have talked to me on AIM over the last week or so, you've probably been confronted with the question of what would you do for $100? What if it were $1000? So if I haven't asked yet, what would you do? |

Video Game survey...questions and a couple answers stolen from rushnattack
Genres/firsts.
1.What was the first video game you have ever played? Donkey Kong
2.What was your first console? NES, along with Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt & Double Dribble (and you know the only reason my dad gave me the last game was so HE could play it)
3.Have you ever visited a video game arcade? Ah, Arnie's Place....how we miss ye. Dave & Busters and Sportsplus are fun, but just not the same.
4.What was your first handheld? Game Boy, along with copies of Tetris, Super Mario Land, and Baseball (and again, you know the only reason my dad gave me the last game was so HE could play it)
5.What was the first game you've beaten/cleared completely? (Got to the last level/got 100%/beat high score, etc.) Kid Icarus
6.Games based off of real sports: Yay or Nay? Well, NHL 94 was one of the funnest games ever, but baseball games are real cooler when they have unrealistic physics systems (Baseball Simulator 1000, Basewars, etc). Mutant League Football can kick John Madden footballs ass too.
7.Online games: Yay or nay? NAY
8.Do you play any Massively Multiplayer Online RPG games? (MMORPGs?) Hell no
9.Do you play any virtual pet games? (Neopets, Teripets, Aftermathzone, etc.) HELLZ NO
10. Puzzle games and Strategy games: Yay or Nay? Mostly
11. Do you play any RPGs? Yep
12. Do you play any Platformer games? Not as much as I used to. Thank you Nintendo for ruining them for us.
13. What was the first game/console/handheld of yours that stopped working? My original gameboy had more bad pixels than good pixels left in it by the time I replaced it with a pocket. It sure was fun playing games on it when you couldn't see half the screen.
Characters/Plot
14. Do you actually care if a game has a plot or do you just play games for the gameplay? I prefer that games have plots, but the ability to press the start button and skip them.
15. Name a few video game characters that are your favorites. pre-whiny Link, Mega Man, Samus, Solid Snake, Kain, Shadow, Lucca, Magus, Talloon, Alucard, Soma, Grant, Cammy
16. Name a few series that are your favorites. Castlevania, Final Fantasy, Metroid, Zelda, Mana, Mega Man, Metal Gear
17. Has a video game ever made you cry? Yes, the ending to Final Fantasy VIII, which I guarentee NONE of you reading this have seen.
18. Has a video game character annoyed you so much that you wanted him removed from the game? If so, name the character. Mario himself, in Yoshi's Island.
19. Do you "pair" or "ship" characters up with one another? (make/create/write romance involving them) Uh....I'm not THAT lame
20. Do you write video game fanfiction? no, you just asked that
21. Do you draw video game fanart? I used to draw really crappy envelope art when I sent stuff to Nintendo Power.
22. Do you come up with theories on how a character came to be/what he or she would do in a situation/why he or she is moody/etc. Occasionally, but I usually kept my thoughts to myself.
23. Are you a "fanboy" or "fangirl" of any character? I'm in love with Beatrix, yes.
Boss Battles/Villains
24. Hardest Boss Battle Emerald & Ruby Weapons from FF VII...you don't want to know how much time I spent fighting them
25. Most Frustrating Boss Battle I know this is a popular answer, but some of those bosses from the original Ninja Gaiden still give me nightmares
26. Most Rewarding Boss Battle Mother Brain in Metroid 3. Nothing like avenging the life of a random, giant alien parasite thingie after it saved your life first.
27. Funnest Boss Battle pretty much every boss in Super Mario RPG.
28. Most Boring Boss Battle the last boss in Gradius 3. Just sits there and lets you kill it....
29. Boss Battle that dragged out for a long, long time Ruby Weapon, because the only sensible way to beat it is to cast a spell loop of Ultima and Life 3 for 40 minutes.
30. Boss Battle with the coolest music Squaresoft gets this right all the time....Final Fantasy IV, VI, VII, VIII, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger
31. Most Surprising Boss Battle fighting Trevor, Sypha and Grant in the second quest of Symphony of the Night was quite a nice surprise.
32. What's your all time favorite villain? Kefka. Crazy AND competant!
33. What's your all time least favorite villain? It's a close call between Zemus and Kuja. Both of them didn't have enough presence throughout the game to really feel like a threat, and even when they were, they were just generic want-to-destroy-the-world villains.
34. Do you ever feel sorry for the villains? Yeah, infact it's always more interesting when they have reasons for becoming what they are.
35. Are there any villains that seem like they should be playing for the good guys, but aren't? Magus :P
36. Most malicious villain Kefka
37. Most suprising villain Soma :P
Favorites
39.What's your favorite 3D game? (PS1/N64/Saturn generation) Spyro
40.What's your favorite arcade game? I don't get to the arcade very much, but I have a long long history with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
41.What's your favorite next-gen game? (Gamecube/PS2/Dreamcast/X-Box) Katamari Damacy
42.Sequels/long series: Yay or nay? Yes, as long as they know when to quit
43.What's your favorite Online Game? Diablo 2.... which also ended my online gaming precense
44.What's your favorite console? NES
45.What's your favorite handheld? GBA
46.Have you ever got yourself involved in a "console war"? (arguing that a console is better than another console) who hasn't?
47.Have you ever defended a character/game/console you liked in an argument? Which one? Yes, the NES, SNES and GBA
48.Name a game that you like but everyone else seems to hate. Deadly Towers
49.Name a character that you like but everyone else seems to hate Grant (especially Japanese Grant)
50.Name a game that you hate but everyone else seems to like. just one? Okay, Halo.
51.Name a character that you hate but everyone else seems to love. Cloud
Miscellaneous
52.Have you ever stopped before you finished a game because it was too frustrating to go on? Yep, did it three times with Final Fantasy Tactics before I finally made it through.
53.Will you stop at NOTHING to get 100% in a video game? I don't do 100% anymore. It is really a waste of time. Really.
54.Have you ever injured yourself at a video game? (Space Invader wrist and Mario Party 1 blister victims may answer yes) I dislocated my thumb on multiple occasions playing Street Fighter
55.Has a horror/survival genre video game scared you to the point that you refused to finish the game? Did you get nightmares from said game? no and no
56.Have you ever thrown a controller/disc/cartridge in a fit of frustration? Yes (those fucking ghosts in the Sea Shrine in FF1), and I managed to hit the NES which shaked it just enough to knock the cartridge out of place, giving me a blinking screen and an erased game!
57.Do you need to blow/clean certain games to get them to play? Yes, despite what Nintendo tells us not to do, it works.
58.Have you ever played a game for so long that you missed sleep over it? Yes. ALthough that tends to happen with PC games more often (Civilization, Heroes of Might & Magic, Diablo 2)
59.Were you ever involved in the Pokemon craze? I played enough to realize I didn't like it.
60.Last but not least: Do you picture yourself playing video games 10, 20, or 30 years from now? Yes. There are still 1000 NES & SNES games out there to finish. |

from the files of things that are way too awesome to believe....
so last night, I was watching Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and this band called Matisyahu was on. It is a group of Orthodox Jews who perform Reggae music, and they blew my mind. I downloaded their albums today and they are amazing. It also turned out that both of my roommates have actually heard of this group, which leads me to wonder if the world is crazy and I am the normal one, or if I somehow got wedged under a rock and Orthodox Jewish Reggae was taking over the music scene?
And for those of you who think I am joking:

okay, so I usually can't stand award shows. Seems like most normal people, with no connection whatsoever to the nominees, take this stuff way too seriously, as if whether or not a movie/album/show won a statue or not makes it better or worse for them. However, I was drawn in by my filmbuff roommates to watch most of the Oscars tonight. Jon Stewart was funny, although (as he said himself on Larry King the other night) there is a rule that every host who is not Billy Crystal is going to be called a failure no matter how funny they are. Chris Rock's routine was great last year (I saw it a month early at a comedy club) and everybody said he bombed, so I'm sure we'll be hearing the same thing tomorrow about Stewart....
ANYWAY
the greatest moment I've ever seen in my short history of watching awards shows was tonight. The 3-6 Mafia performed the Pimp rap from Hustle & Flow live on stage, and half the audience looked like they've never seen rap before. Immediately after, the award for best song was given, and although it would have been so easy to give it to Dolly Parton or the no name who did the Crash theme, it went to 3-6 Mafia, who got on stage wearing tshirts and gold chains and with an entourage behind them, and did a bleep-filled speech. All Jon Stewart could say in response is "number of oscars Martin Scorsese has - 0. Number of oscars 3-6 Mafia has - 1."
Oh, and despite the 200% insistance from my roommates that Brokeback Mountain would win best picture, it DIDN'T. Crash did. Boy did I call that one!!! |

well, the run with Vista was fun, but there's just too much stuff I like to do with a computer that is not yet supported, so for the first time in over a year, I am back to XP. Vista is going to be sweet when it's ready, but it needa another year (hey, it's been 5, what's one more?)
I also am back to using a single monitor. My video card was acting up and I wanted to see if my second monitor (which is now a teenager!) was the cause. It wasn't (it was actually because the 12 pin ATX connector to the motherboard was loose) but I was too lazy to lift it back onto the table. XP and a single monitor....so weird being normal for once :P |

here is my first post from my computer running Windows Vista. This new OS is going to take a lot of getting used to. It's the most changed user interface I've seen since Windows *95*.....and just like in 1995, it's trying to be more like the Mac OS's interface, not that it's a bad thing.
Two major flaws so far:
- my SIIG IDE controller's drivers aren't working. That's a problem because I have two hard drives connected to it, and they can't be accessed. I went through the same problem when I started running the beta of Windows 2000, so I'm sure I'll figure something out.
- I can't change the time zone! I'm either going to have to learn to add 3 hours to the time every time I look at it, or turn the internet time off and manually set it ahead.
Best new feature of Windows Vista - the ability to list folders by not only Small or Large icons, but Medium and Extra Large! |

There's been an end of the year thingie going around LJ where a bot randomly picks one subject from every month to make a nice year-in-summary meme-like thing to post. I tried it, and almost every month had blank entries, since I seldomly write subjects. Hell, I seldomly write at all (and for those of you who just lurk, you probably assume I abandoned this site, so Merry Christmas I'm leaving this one unlocked)
I went to NJ today and totally pwned. Yes, I said it - pwned. It's days like this that remind me that I indeed am a talented and useful individual, and more companies should be begging me to come work for them. Honestly now, does ANYBODY hire in December?
And in another bit of good news, thanks to my talented art of negotation, I am actually THIS much closer to that moment of bliss I have been seeking for the last 4 years and 4 days. And by THIS.....which btw, is an often used expression, even by myself, although it is a confusing form of measurement......I mean it should actually happen, although in a fake, creepy way. But I'm a fake, creepy guy so who am I to complain about the methods and means?
The bad news is today I realized that I am infact the Mr Brightside.
Pretty soon I'll do a real year-end roundup, and post it on my website, making it the first time it was updated since LAST YEAR's roundup.
shit, it's past my bedtime. ta. |

| Apple sucks |
[Oct. 13th, 2005|10:16 am] |
so just over a month after I replaced my ipod, Apple goes ahead and releases the 5G, at the same price as mine. This one can play video...but big deal, my phone can do that too, and unlike the new ipod, can do it without having to recompress the file to quicktime.
Damn, it sure is ugly though....it looks like the 4G was run over by a steam-roller:

and I'm willing to bet that thousands of users are going to complain like crazy about how they only get 2-3 hours of watching videos before the battery dies. Common sense people - the reason you get 12 hours out of the audio ipods is because the screen turns off after 10 seconds! |
